Go Ahead For Further Homes At Great Kneighton

08 September 2015

Plans for new housing and retail facilities at Great Kneighton have been approved by Cambridge City Council. Consent has been given for the construction of 251 new homes, including 40% affordable housing. These will form part of the fast establishing Great Kneighton community which is being developed by Countryside to the south of Cambridge city centre. It will provide a total of 2,250 homes in total when complete.

The recently approved plans include a range of three and four bedroom townhouses together with studio, one, two and three bedroom apartments all built to the highest levels of environmental sustainability. There will also be more than 10,000 sq ft of retail space making up five new retail units, as well as a traffic free garden square that will help link the development with the scheme’s new community building and the existing Trumpington community.

Tony Travers, Managing Director of New Homes and Communities Central at Countryside said: “This is our last major planning application for Great Kneighton and through it we are putting in place some of the final pieces of the jigsaw that will see it become a vibrant and attractive neighbourhood for Cambridge. The plans build on what we have achieved so far at Great Kneighton and will deliver more high quality housing, including much needed affordable homes, as well as retail facilities that will also provide valuable amenities for residents.”

Designed by London based architects Tate Hindle, the plans for the latest phase complement the scheme so far and respect the surrounding landscape, with a strong focus on green space. Buildings range in height from two to five storeys, with several of the apartment blocks situated around landscaped communal courtyard areas designed by award winning landscape architects Townshend.

While all homes have some form of private outdoor space, the majority have also been designed to make the most of the existing landscape including the new 120-acre Country Park that has been created as part of the development, as well as the playing fields of the new Trumpington Community College which is due to open its doors to students in early 2016. The plans also include the upgrade of the existing Trumpington to Addenbrookes cycle route and a variety of new pedestrian and cycle links through this part of the site.

Construction is due to commence in Autumn 2016 and the homes are expected to be available for sale from Spring 2017. Occupiers are now being sought for the five new retail units – for further information contact agent James Lankfer at Trumpington based Bidwells on 01223 559 558. -Ends-
