FIRST IMPRESSIONS COUNT AT CAMBRIDGE SHOW HOME

06 October 2017

When choosing a new home, the interior styling of a property is a major deciding factor for many buyers, according to a new survey. Knowing the importance of first impressions, homebuilder Countryside worked with interior design specialists, DAPA Interiors, to ensure the Windham, an exceptional show home at Countryside’s Abode development in Great Kneighton, Cambridge, really had the wow factor.

The Windham is an impressive five-bedroom family home that is perfect for contemporary living, offering over 3000 sq. ft. of flexible living accommodation across three floors. Centred around a unique expansive courtyard, the layout effectively maximises the space available with an integrated double garage, vaulted ceilings, and four further terraces.

David Everett, Managing Director of Countryside’s New Homes and Communities Central region, comments: “Situated just a few minutes from Addenbrooke’s Hospital and the Cambridge Biomedical Campus, and within easy reach of Cambridge city centre, Abode is ideally placed for a wide range of purchasers. Taking this prime location into consideration, we worked closely with DAPA Interiors to create a show home that would appeal to couples and families in search of a property that suits their busy lifestyle, while meeting the needs of all its occupants.”

Rob Burton, Director at DAPA Interiors, comments: “The modern, luxurious interiors are inspired by current trends, to reflect the discerning tastes of the Cambridge market. The rich, neutral base palette used throughout the home lends an air of sophistication, while bold injections of colour, striking artwork and eclectic furniture give each room its own distinctive personality. The result is an outstanding family home with well-defined spaces, clearly showing how the Windham’s abundant space can be used to its full potential and enjoyed by adults and children alike.”

On the ground floor, the expansive kitchen/dining/family room is the hub of the home. With its bright, sophisticated design, 10-seater dining table and large corner sofa, it is equally suited to more formal entertaining as it is to socialising as a family. Full-height glazing along the two walls in the kitchen facing the large central courtyard create a sense of fluidity between the internal and external spaces. Moroccan-themed styling gives the courtyard warmth and character, with decorative wall hangings, lanterns, and large palm trees, which introduce fresh splashes of green, inside and out.

A separate living room on the first floor provides a more informal space for spending time together. With glass doors leading to a terrace overlooking the courtyard, the room is light and airy during the day. However, heavy curtains, plush, dark furnishings and opulent jewel-toned accents mean that it transitions seamlessly into a warm, cosy room that is perfect for family film nights.

The two children’s bedrooms are generously-sized and feature a dressing area and en suite bathroom. The girl’s bedroom is pretty and dreamlike, with a subtle Alice in Wonderland theme. Meanwhile, the boy’s bedroom is filled with Marvel action figures, costumes, cushions and artwork, and clever design details, like “punch holes” in the wall.

The master bedroom on the second floor is the ultimate grown-up retreat. Not only does it boast a dressing area and en suite, but it also has private access to an exceptional terrace via glass double doors. The décor is inspired by a boutique hotel, with an emphasis on rich, varied textures, from the bedding to the wallpaper. The terrace is the perfect place to wind down on a summer’s day, whether sunbathing on one of the loungers, or relaxing with a good book and a glass of wine.

The fifth bedroom, also on the second floor, has a stunning vaulted ceiling and feature window, and also benefits from a modern en suite and private balcony. It has been turned into a stylish playroom for older children, with a spacious terrace accessed from the hallway.

As part of the wider Great Kneighton development, the homes are set amid green open spaces and tree-lined avenues. The masterplan also includes an extensive range of new amenities, including Trumpington Park Primary School which opened in September 2017, Trumpington Community College, a community centre which is due to open in early 2018, as well as shops, a library, offices, sports pitches and a 120-acre country park.

Abode is only a short walk from the Great Kneighton access point for the Cambridgeshire Guided Busway, which provides a five-minute journey to Cambridge train station, and then into the city centre. Frequent services from the station into London King’s Cross take as little as 49 minutes, making Cambridge a popular choice with commuters. The development is also just a few minutes from the M11 for London, Stansted Airport and the nearby towns of Newmarket, Huntingdon and Norwich.

Prices for The Windham start from £1,250,000, currently available with Stamp Duty paid or Full Value Part Exchange. The marketing suite is open seven days a week between 10am and 5pm. For more information on Abode visit www.abodecambridge.co.uk or call 01223 846 650.
